Same sketch but with some Photoshop coloring. I used several different Hue/Saturation layers to add in the different colors. I also created a couple of Levels layers to keep the pencil lines from fading away. Feels a little dark as I look at it now, but I'll probably just start on a new drawing rather than try to fix this one.

I've always had a special place in my heart for Hank. I love your style... it has such a wonderful sensitivity and a vintage aesthetic.

I agree with you that it is a lot of effort/work putting such detail in his fur but you're a pro at it. I don't think many persons would do such a thorough job of it even if they were to spend the time doing it. I used to think that hairstyle was dorky but you made it appealing somehow.

Now that is the Beast I want to see in the comics. If only the Marvel guys spent as much time as you detailing what Hank should look like.

In your research for the hair pattens, did you look at hypertrichosis sufferers at all?

Amazing Adventures 11-15 are some of my fav Beast stories.

I did study hypertrichosis actually; but I found it much more useful to study the faces of short-hair dogs. Since hypertrichosis cases the hair to grow really long and obscure all the facial features. I wanted something that conformed to the face better.

In defense of some of those guys at Marvel, it's actually really tough to keep up this level of detail for long. So I can understand why most of them take shortcuts and just draw Hank like he has blue skin, but I do agree that they should at least do more to suggest his fur in the close up shots.

Anyways, I just read the entire Amazing Adventures storyline for the first time recently and it's actually completely changed my stance on the furry, blue Beast. I didn't really like him as much before then.

I actually want to do a more detailed drawing of Hank's face and make it as realistic as possible. This drawing was just to get the basic idea of how his furry face looked, so I can visualize it for a more detailed drawing.

Anyways, thanks!

Hank is - if you want the avengers Beast a difficult person to be hyperrealistic since his face is actually not existing in human.(as many faces like Hulk for example- The same is with the Body structure of many heros they are just *super human* thats wy it is nearly impossible to reach this as a human actor..It looks good, but at the same time differ then life - ( i liked the eye on the scetch page very very much btw.
You did an exellent job!

That's one of the reasons that I like to do these super-detailed drawings every once in a while. It helps to keep characters like Beast grounded in reality (at least in my head). Although, after doing a couple of drawings like this I can see why he's drawn the way he is in the comics. It just gets a little overbearing to try to render all that fur in every single picture, not to mention time consuming.

Anyways, that little eye drawing on the sketch page has inspired me to try a full face version like that (maybe a half-face, I haven't decided yet).

I like how you captured the avengers era look of the beast. Intersting how you blended a sort scruffy human face along with the fur. It's a really awesome blend to pull off since this is rendered realistically vs. a cartoon where you'd just color it blue and throw some dots and dashes in there for stubble
