Gamorrean Guard sketchby ~NMRosario

Just a sketch of a Gamorrean Guard from Return of the Jedi, with a minor alteration.

In the Return of the Jedi Sketchbook, from 1983, it talks about how the Gamorreans were originally intended to be bare-chested and wear short, gladiator-style costumes. Unfortunately, the technological limits of the time made it impossible to mold realistic looking skin that would still allow for shoulder movement. Thus, the outfit of the aliens had to be redesigned in a way that concealed the costume seams.

So, I've drawn this Gamorrean wearing a hybrid of the onscreen outfit and one of the gladiator-style concept designs as kind of a glimpse into what might have been if Return of the Jedi hadn't been limited by 1980s technology.

Space Orcs!

These guys are great! I remember seeing them on screen and wishing to be a Jedi one.... alas I found out many years later that the Gamorreans not particularly Force sensitive.
