Hank McCoy facial expressions study by NMRosario Hank McCoy facial expressions study by NMRosario
Just a sequence of related facial expressions.  I imagine Hank is either telling a funny story or listening to Bobby's tales of his latest exploits on the dating scene.

In case you're wondering why his shoulders look a little strange, he's supposed to be seated on the ground leaning against the wall.  I'm thinking about expanding this to a second page, so I'll make sure to draw out Hank's entire pose so that these close-ups make more sense.

Nice work on Hank.

Would be interested in seeing some 'Hank in the lab' type images from you- esp X-Factor era Beast.

Very nice series of portraits.  I think I like the third one best.

I suspect it's because I'm just not a fan of smiles.

Thank you.  I've always seen laughing and smiling as kind of integral to Hank McCoy's personality.  Of course, he doesn't do much of that these days, but he is kind of responsible for breaking the space-time continuum, so that could be why.  Anyways, I thought we need more drawings of happy-go-lucky Hank and not brooding "how am I going to fix this gigantic mess that I've made before we all blink out of existence?" Hank.

My own perspective is that smiles are a bit overdone, especially in photographs.    Not everyone looks good when he or she smiles, including myself.

What I like in the 3rd photo is that Hank looks sleepy.   I feel it's more authentic than the others.    Restful Hank.

You know that I love anything you do with Hank! These are great. Being able to work with expressions is a great skill for artists. Keep bringin' them on!

Thanks!  I think my ultimate goal would be to do a full length fan comic with Hank and Bobby having their own solo adventure.  At the very least, I'd like to do an 8-page story that could also double as a submission.

That one is my favorite as well.  Which is funny, because it was my least favorite in the pencil drawing.

Glad to know that your enthusiasm is holding up. I can picture what he's just heard. "Robert, m'lad, that falls under the category of a "cock and bull" story, if I ever heard one".

I was originally going to put some dialog in this one, but couldn't come up with anything that didn't feel forced.  So I thought I would leave it captionless and allow people to come up with their own ideas for what's being said.  Yours is pretty good, I could definitely see Hank saying that in the last panel. It's probably better not to know what some people came up with:).

Well, that's good to hear because I have more ideas for Hank McCoy drawings forming in my brain all the time.  Probably the only comic book character that I never seem to get tired of drawing (along with my original character, Stump, of course).
