Hank and Jean - page 2

This is page 2 of a 3-5 page comic idea that I've been working on. I actually have pages 1 and 3 all scripted out, I just haven't drawn either of them yet. Depending on how page 3 is laid out, the story might extend to 4-5 pages.

Basically, this is an idea that I've been rolling around in my head for decades now. In the earliest issues of X-Men, Hank was actively seeking to get romantically involved with Jean, then suddenly nothing. Jean starts pining over Scott, Warren starts pining over Jean, and Hank seems to lose interest entirely. So I've always wondered exactly what happened there.

Of course, we all know what actually happened. Because of the way comics are generally written, most characters are developed on the fly and Hank McCoy went through a major shift in appearance and personality during those first 3-4 issues of X-Men. However, it's just fun for me to imagine an "in universe" explanation for Hank's sudden loss of interest in Jean Grey.

I guess I always imagined that they might have gone a little further than Hank's attempted molestation of Jean in issue #1. But it was likely one of those romances that heated up rapidly and burned itself out before it really got started.

The entire "incident" takes place somewhere between the end of issue #4 and the end of issue #5, when the X-Men believe that Professor X has lost his mental powers. Why else do you think Hank looks so horrified to learn that it was all a test, and Xavier never actually lost his powers, in the last few panels of X-Men #5?

EDIT: I tweaked the dialog a little bit and removed what I believed to be an unnecessary thought balloon in the first panel. Hopefully the dialog flows a little smoother now.
